Exciting
Changes For All Mega
Millions Players The
nation's largest and most exciting game is becoming bigger and better. Officials
in California have announced that Mega Millions will be played all across
California beginning Wednesday, June 22, with the first drawing being held
Friday, June 24. The addition of
California means that Mega Millions players in all 12 participating states will
experience changes. The minimum jackpot will be raised from $10 million to $12
million. The prize for players who match the
first five numbers but not the Mega Ball will increase from $175,000 to
$250,000. The prize for matching five
of six numbers including the Mega Ball increases from $5,000 to $10,000. All subscriptions with a Mega Ball
greater than 46 will be changed to a 46 starting with the drawing held on June
24, 2005. The
addition of California means a much larger player-base for the Mega Millions
game. More players, in turn,
mean more game play, leading to faster-growing jackpots that can climb to new
record levels much quicker. Mega Millions (formerly the Big Game) holds the
record for the largest jackpot in North American history. It reached $363
million in May of 2000. Here
are the nine ways that you can win a Mega Millions Prize: * Match five numbers
plus the Mega Ball to win the jackpot. * Match the first five numbers, but not the Mega Ball, to win $250,000.
*
Match four
numbers plus the Mega Ball to win $10,000. *
Match four
numbers, but not the Mega Ball, to win $150. *
Match
three numbers plus the Mega Ball to win $150. *
Match two numbers plus the Mega Ball to win $10. *
Match three numbers, but not the Mega Ball, to win $7. *
Match one number plus the Mega Ball to win $3 *

CHANGES: BIGGER GUARANTEED New Features In Game Debut Aug. 28 First Drawing Aug 31, 2005 Changes coming to Powerball® will create a larger starting jackpot in the game and bigger "Match 5" prizes. The changes are designed to meet player expectations for larger, faster growing jackpots and accommodate population changes in the Powerball group. Powerball sales began in April 1992 with 15 states participating in the game. Today, Powerball is sold by 29 lotteries, including three that joined the game in 2004 and pushed its combined population to about 92 million. Powerball has proven to be the nation's most popular jackpot game and its sales have raised billions of dollars for the worthy causes benefited by lottery proceeds. Powerball will turn up the excitement level for those players who hit Powerball's Match 5 prize." Beginning Aug. 28, 2005 the guaranteed starting jackpot amount in Powerball will increase from $10 million to $15 million. Two white balls will be added to the first pool in the game, meaning players will choose five numbers from 55. Players will continue to select the Powerball from a pool of 42, represented in the game's drawings by red balls. Powerball will be a 5/55 + 1/42 game. Another change to be made in August will double the prize for those players who match the first five numbers (Match 5) but miss the Powerball. They'll win $200,000 instead of the current $100,000. Powerball's annuity option also will be changed so that players receive an annual payment that increases each year (the jackpot currently is paid out in 30 equal installments over 29 years). Players also can continue to choose to receive the jackpot as a lump-sum cash payment, but the option to receive ever-growing payments is in response to players who have voiced concerns about the effects of inflation on their annuity. The time of the drawings will not change, and the cost will be the same. The overall chance of winning a prize in Powerball will change only slightly, from 1 in 36 to 1 in 36.6. The odds of winning the jackpot will change from about 1:120.5 million to 1:146.1 million. Powerball began in April 1992 as a 5/45 + 1/45 game. The upcoming change is the games’s fourth design. Powerball’s largest jackpot to date was the $314.9 million in the drawing on Dec. 25, 2002.
